Wednesday, October 25, 2016, 6:15 -8:30 pm: "Caring for an Aging Family Member"

In our death-denying culture, it is not always easy to find support if you are caring for elderly or ailing parents. In this free community service event, author Joanna Lillian Brown will describe four stages of caregiving, discuss different caregiving roles, from primary caregiver to helping from afar, will discuss communications tools that can be used to facilitate care coordination and address family dynamics and conflicts; and will describe the functions of the will, living will, medical proxy, power of attorney, and HIPAA regulations. She will offer a list of actions that can assure a higher quality of life for the parent and the adult-child caregiver. The author will take questions and comments from the audience following the talk. This event costs $29, and pre-registration is required by calling 413-552-2500. The book will be available for sale for $20.13 before and after the talk.
